# Campaign Zero

*(the exact 5-step setup we run to launch a cold email campaign from scratch, the same system behind 3,000+ booked calls in the last year)*

## Read This First

you're not here because you've never heard of cold email.

you're here because you tried to launch a campaign, bolted on some fancy AI personalization, implemented it wrong, and watched the whole thing flop.

i've seen this play out a thousand times.

after booking over 3,000+ sales calls in the last year, here's what i'll tell you for free: people make cold email WAY harder than it needs to be.

the fancy stuff is not the unlock.

you can book a call from cold email just by nailing the basics, and this guide is the basics.

you walk away with:

1. a front-end offer built in ChatGPT in under 10 minutes (the part everyone gets wrong)
1. a lead list pulled from Apollo and scraped for ~$29 instead of thousands
1. cold email copy that doesn't read like a sales pitch (because that's the only thing that still works)
1. the exact sending infrastructure math, 50/50 Google and Outlook, no SPF/DKIM headaches
1. a launch checklist so you can send your first batch this week
this is NOT a master class for advanced cold emailers.

if you want a 47-step Clay flow, close the tab.

this is the simple system that puts calls on the calendar.

work through it in order. each page ends with you having actually BUILT a piece.

lock in.

## Why Most Campaigns Flop Before They Send a Single Email

think back to the last time you launched.

you pitched your main service straight out of the gate.

"hey, we offer X, want to hop on a call?"

zero replies.

NOBODY reads a cold email from a complete stranger and signs away a $5,000 retainer on the spot.

so you did what everyone does next, you reached for the shiny stuff.

you added hyper-personalized first lines, a scraper pulling their last LinkedIn post, some AI tool stitching it all together.

and it got worse instead of better.

because when the same "personalized" line works on 500 people, that's a scraper flex, and prospects can smell it from a mile away.

the campaigns that actually book calls are boring.

they get the offer right, then the list, then the casual copy, then the sending infrastructure that lands in the primary inbox, and only then do they send at volume.

five pieces, in that order, and nothing fancier than that.

one of our clients closed a $250k deal from a cold email that was 47 words long.

that email had zero personalization theater and zero long-form trust building in it.

the basics, done right, beat the fancy stuff every single time.

the next five pages walk you through each piece in order.

by the end you have a campaign ready to launch.

start with the offer.

## Quick Win: Build Your Front-End Offer in 10 Minutes

do this right now. open ChatGPT.

you don't need a custom GPT. just paste this prompt and feed it four things about your business.

FILLED EXAMPLE (a real one from the system):

the client offers funding and lending, up to $2 million same-day. the front-end offer ChatGPT built was the "capital acceleration impact review" which shows a prospect the difference between growing organically and growing with capital, using their real numbers. no ask on the first call. it just shows them the potential, then bridges to the main offer if there's a fit.

notice what the offer does. it doesn't say "we help you do X." it says "here is EXACTLY what you'll get from this engagement." that single shift is the whole trick.

YOUR PROMPT (copy it, then fill the brackets):

```plain text
a front-end offer is a low-risk entry point that lets a cold prospect see the quality of my work before they commit. it's free or cheap, easy to say yes to, and it leads naturally into my core offer.
build me 3 to 4 front-end offer ideas.
my main offer: [WHAT YOU SELL, e.g. "done-for-you cold email for B2B agencies"]
my ideal customer: [WHO, e.g. "founders at $1M-$5M B2B service businesses"]
the main pain points i solve: [2-3 SPECIFIC PAINS, e.g. "inconsistent pipeline, no booked calls"]
the results i get: [A REAL OUTCOME, e.g. "45 booked calls in 30 days"]
for each idea, tell me what the prospect GETS, why it works, and how it transitions cleanly to my main offer.
```

run it. pick the one that makes you go "i'd actually pay for that."

YOUR TURN (10 minutes):

write your winning front-end offer here:

- offer name: [____________]
- what the prospect gets: [____________]
- the clean bridge to your main offer: [____________]
> **Note:** if it sounds like something a prospect would PAY for, you nailed it. if it sounds like "free 30-min consultation," rewrite it. that's a pitch wearing a costume.

you now have a front-end offer, the single most important piece of the whole campaign, built in 10 minutes.

## Build Your Lead List for $29, Not $2,000

now you know WHAT to offer. next is WHO.

you don't build this list by hand. Apollo.io does the hunting for you.

the only thing you need to know is who converts. and the easiest way to figure that out is to look at the clients you already have.

before you touch Apollo, fill this in:

LOOK AT YOUR TOP 3-5 CLIENTS:

- [ ] what industry are they in?
- [ ] what's their company size / employee count?
- [ ] what job titles did you actually sell to?
- [ ] what location?
stuck? paste your offer into ChatGPT and ask it to generate relevant job titles and keywords for that persona. that's exactly what we do.

FILLED EXAMPLE (the lending offer):

for a $2M lending offer targeting equipment-heavy manufacturers, ChatGPT spat out job titles plus a stack of keywords. dropped those into Apollo, set location to US, set a company-size range that fit (manufacturers run big, so 100-200 employees), and narrowed the title filter to decision-makers only. list landed around 15,000 people. plenty.

then comes the part that saves you a fortune.

exporting straight from Apollo at 15,000 leads costs hundreds, sometimes thousands.

so don't. use an Apollo scraper like Ample Leads instead.

THE FLOW:

→ build your search in Apollo until the count looks right → copy the Apollo search URL → paste it into Ample Leads → set the number of leads + a file name → scrape

15,000 leads through Ample Leads runs about $29. the same list native in Apollo or ZoomInfo runs thousands.

YOUR TURN (15 minutes):

- my target job titles: [____________]
- my keywords (stack as many relevant ones as you can, keywords beat broad "industries"): [____________]
- my location: [____________]
- my company-size range: [____________]
- final list count: [____________]
> **Note:** pro tip from the system: industries are too broad and give weak results. stack specific keywords instead, and add company-description keywords to widen relevance without losing fit.

you now have a scraped lead list, for the price of lunch instead of a mortgage payment.

## Write Copy That Doesn't Smell Like a Pitch

this is where people make one of two mistakes.

either they write long personalized essays nobody has the attention span to read.

or they write sales-focused emails that scream "i'm trying to sell you something."

neither works anymore. people are more aware than ever, and anything that looks like a pitch in disguise gets ignored.

the only thing that still works is the opposite. casual, short, the offer doing the heavy lifting.

HOW TO BUILD IT:

take the front-end offer you built on the quick win page. paste it into Claude. ask for a short, conversational way to pitch it in one to two lines, no "hey/hi/hello" greeting, straight to the offer.

FILLED EXAMPLE (the lending offer, dialed in):

```plain text
interested in a free side-by-side comparison showing [company]'s next 12-24 months with and without capital acceleration?
we map both paths using your real numbers so you can see the decision with actual data instead of a guess.
we just did this for a $12M fabrication shop. staying organic was costing them $380k a year in contracts they couldn't bid on.
```

look at what that does. no greeting. straight to a valuable free thing. one line of social proof in the PS. zero "can we hop on a call" energy.

THE EMAIL 2 AND 3 MOVE:

the beauty of a one-liner email is you held back everything else. use it in the follow-ups.

→ email 2: "by the way [first name], the analysis also covers [a pain point or objection they have]" → email 3: switch the mechanism, offer something even lower friction, like a short doc covering how you'd approach it, instead of a call

YOUR BLANK TEMPLATE (fill the brackets):

```plain text
interested in a free [VALUABLE DELIVERABLE] showing [COMPANY] [THE OUTCOME THEY CARE ABOUT]?
we [WHAT YOU DO, FRAMED AS VALUE, NOT A SERVICE PITCH].
we just did this for [SIMILAR PROSPECT] which [SPECIFIC RESULT].
```

SUBJECT LINES: keep them broad and curiosity-led, never obviously sales-y. "[first name] capacity question" or "quick growth scenario" beats "BOOK A CALL WITH US." honestly the subject line is close to 0.001% of what matters. don't overthink it.

YOUR TURN (10 minutes):

write email 1 using the template above for your #1 prospect persona.

> **Note:** if your email is longer than 4-5 lines, cut it. if it would make YOU cringe to receive it, rewrite it. casual beats clever.

## Set Up Infrastructure That Lands in the Primary Inbox

you cannot fire 10,000 emails from one domain and call it a day.

that dumps you in spam or torches your main domain's reputation PERMANENTLY.

so you spread sending across multiple domains and accounts. the good news is this no longer costs thousands.

THE SETUP (split your sending):

run roughly 50/50 Google and Outlook. if something flags on the Google side, you're covered on Outlook, and the other way around. they trade off which performs better, it's never constant, so run both.

THE MATH FOR A BEGINNER (aim for ~10,000-20,000 sends/month to start):

→ Google: ~20-25 domains, ~50 sending accounts, ~500 emails/day = ~10k/month → Outlook: 1 domain, 99 accounts, ~5 cents per account per day, ~495/day = ~10k/month

that's ~20k sends a month, enough to start collecting data.

HOW TO BUY IT (the part that used to be a nightmare):

you used to set up SPF and DMARC and DKIM records by hand. not anymore.

use an infrastructure reseller. Inbox Kit or Zapmail both sell pre-configured Google and Outlook mailboxes. you submit an order form, check out, and they auto-configure everything and drop it into your sending tool.

→ ~$100/month gets you around 30 Google mailboxes on some plans → resellers handle the records, the warm-up, all of it

NOTE ON .INFO DOMAINS: .info domains were the cheap-scale play (a fraction of a .com), but they've started getting flagged. default to .com first, .co second. only reach for the cheap-suffix route if you know what you're doing and you're watching deliverability closely.

YOUR INFRASTRUCTURE CHECKLIST:

- [ ] decided monthly send volume to start (~10-20k)
- [ ] split planned 50/50 Google + Outlook
- [ ] ordered mailboxes through a reseller (Inbox Kit or Zapmail)
- [ ] domains attached (.com / .co, not the flagged cheap stuff)
- [ ] warm-up started (2 weeks, non-negotiable before you send)
> **Note:** the 2-week warm-up is what gets you into the primary inbox. skip it and your whole campaign lands in spam. start it the day your mailboxes arrive, then go write while it warms.

## Pick Your Sender and Launch

infrastructure's built. now you need a sequencer to actually send from.

there are a dozen tools. you don't need the most expensive or feature-packed one. you need one that's cheap and simple and actually lands in the inbox.

THE BEGINNER OPTIONS:

→ Smartlead, ~$80-100/month, an all-in-one platform with a 14-day trial, a solid first pick → Instantly, ~$77-80/month, the simplest of the bunch, no bells and whistles but everything you need in one place → Plus Vibe, similar price and the newest option, with a strong delivery reputation because its shared pool isn't tarnished yet

if i had to pick one for delivery right now, it'd be Plus Vibe.

(the tool WE use is Email Bison, a private sequencer with isolated deliverability for the top 1%. you have to apply. don't start there. it's overkill until you're sending at real volume across many clients.)

THE LAUNCH SEQUENCE:

1. import your mailboxes from the reseller into your sequencer
1. turn on the 2-week warm-up (flip the toggle, pick the settings, done)
1. while it warms, load your scraped list and your email copy
1. add your personalizations at the LIST level (signal-based relevance), not fake first-line theater
1. once warm-up's done, launch
LAUNCH-DAY CHECKLIST:

- [ ] front-end offer locked
- [ ] list scraped and uploaded
- [ ] email 1, 2, 3 written and casual
- [ ] mailboxes imported + warmed (full 2 weeks)
- [ ] sending caps set so you don't spike volume
- [ ] campaign live
ONE TRUTH ABOUT VOLUME:

if you're sending 10-20k a month (~500-1,000/day), results take a minute. cold email is a numbers game. the more you send, the more replies, and the faster you collect data on what's actually working.

you now have a live campaign built from zero. that's campaign zero, done.

lock in and let it run.

## When It's Not Working: The Fix List

campaign's live and quiet? don't panic and don't rip it apart. diagnose in order.

GETTING REPLIES BUT NONE INTERESTED:

your offer or your copy is the issue here. the email is probably too sales-y. go back and make it casual, lead with the free front-end offer, cut the ask. remember the $250k deal came off a 47-word email.

GETTING ALMOST NOTHING AT ALL (and offer + copy are dialed):

it's the list, and almost nobody checks the list first.

one of our clients was raising capital in a hyper-niche market. they ran cold email for 30 days and got 2 positive replies. awful. we knew the offer was solid and the copy was dialed, so the only thing left to blame was the LIST.

so the team went hunting for a better data source. found a hyper-relevant industry event, scraped the attendee list, enriched it, and rewrote the CTA around an in-person angle.

the numbers:

→ 2,305 emails sent → 156 replies (6.77%) → 67 interested in 2 days

same offer. same general copy. different list. when offer and copy are right and you're still getting nothing, switch the data source before you switch the message.

LANDING IN SPAM:

you skipped or shortened the warm-up, or you spiked your volume too fast. let the full 2 weeks run, keep daily caps low per account, and stay split across Google and Outlook.

THE PERSONALIZATION TRAP:

if you bolted on AI-written first lines and replies dropped, that's why. fake personalization makes it MORE obvious you used a scraper. pull it. use signals at the list level for relevance instead.

QUICK DIAGNOSTIC:

- [ ] replies but no interest, fix the offer/copy (too sales-y)
- [ ] no replies at all, fix the list (switch data source)
- [ ] landing in spam, fix infrastructure (warm-up + caps)
- [ ] interest dropped after adding AI lines, kill the fake personalization
> **Note:** most "broken" campaigns only have one broken piece. find the piece that's off, repair just that one, and relaunch.

## The Campaign Zero Cheat Sheet

the whole system on one page. screenshot it.

THE 5 PIECES, IN ORDER:

1. OFFER, build a free/cheap front-end offer in ChatGPT, test 3-4, pick the one a prospect would pay for
1. LIST, model your top 3-5 clients, build in Apollo, scrape with Ample Leads (~$29 for 15k)
1. COPY, casual one-liners in Claude, no greeting, offer does the work, hold the rest for emails 2-3
1. INFRASTRUCTURE, 50/50 Google + Outlook, reseller mailboxes (Inbox Kit / Zapmail), 2-week warm-up
1. LAUNCH, Smartlead / Instantly / Plus Vibe, import + warm + load + send
NUMBERS WORTH MEMORIZING:

| thing | the number |
| --- | --- |
| starter send volume | 10-20k/month (~500-1,000/day) |
| infrastructure split | ~50% Google / ~50% Outlook |
| Google sending | ~15 emails/account/day |
| Outlook sending | ~5 emails/account/day |
| warm-up before sending | 2 weeks, every time |
| 15k leads via scraper | ~$29 |
| domain priority | .com > .co > (.info flagged) |
| email length | 4-5 lines max, casual |

THE ASSETS YOU BUILT:

- [ ] front-end offer → quick win page
- [ ] scraped lead list → list page
- [ ] 3 casual emails → copy page
- [ ] warmed infrastructure → infrastructure page
- [ ] live campaign → launch page
THE ONE RULE ABOVE ALL: people make this WAY harder than it needs to be. nail the basics, send at real volume, and let the data tell you what's working.

3,000+ booked calls in the last year came from this exact setup. zero of them came from a 47-step Clay flow.
